Parkit Explains

Parking Near Hospitals, City Centres and Airports – How to Find the Right Spot

Whether you’re heading to a hospital, downtown, or the airport — every trip starts the same way: you need to find parking. Here’s how parking works in the places where it’s often the hardest — hospitals, city centres, and airports — with a special focus on Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Parking at Hospitals

Parking at hospitals requires both patience and planning.
Spaces fill up quickly, rules vary by area, and fees are rarely the same.

How it works:

  • Almost all hospital areas charge for parking, even evenings and weekends
  • Parking is managed by the regional authority or private companies such as Aimo Park, Parkering Malmö, or Q-Park
  • Payment is made via app or pay station — always check the sign for the correct zone
  • Staff and visitor permits are increasingly digital

Tips:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early — hospital lots fill up fast
  • Double-check the zone code in your app before paying
  • If you’re in a hurry, park a bit farther away — stressed parking is rarely cheap

At Parkit, we work with regional authorities to digitalize hospital parking — so both staff and visitors can focus on care, not car tickets.

Parking in City Centres

City parking is a balance between price, distance, and time.
The closer you are to the pedestrian streets, the higher the fee.

How it works:

  • Fees usually apply weekdays 08–18, sometimes also evenings or weekends
  • Municipal garages have fixed hourly rates; private garages use dynamic pricing
  • Pay through EasyPark, Parkster, or the city’s own app

Tips:

  • Look for P+R (Park & Ride) areas if you commute — cheaper and easier
  • Use a digital day pass if you’ll stay all day
  • Always read the entire sign — maximum parking times vary by block

The cheapest parking spot downtown is often the one that’s a five-minute walk away.

Airport Parking – Plan Before You Fly

Airport parking is its own ecosystem — zones, transfer buses, and time-based pricing.
Always book in advance, especially during holidays or weekends.

Official parking is operated by Swedavia, but several private alternatives are available in Arlandastad and Märsta.

Prices and Booking

  • Book online via swedavia.se/parkering for up to 50% off

  • Typical prices (2025):
    • Short-term (P2–P5): 350–450 SEK/day
    • Long-term (P53–P57): 90–120 SEK/day
    • Private long-term: 50–90 SEK/day incl. transfer

  • Pay via app, pay station, or license plate recognition (ANPR)

Tip: During summer and holidays, long-term parking fills up early — always pre-book your space.

Electric Vehicles & Charging at Arlanda

  • EV chargers available in P2, P4, P5, and some long-term areas
  • Most are AC chargers (11–22 kW), bookable together with parking
  • Payment via the Swedavia app or operators such as Mer and E.ON Drive

Parkit follows the shift toward integrated systems, where parking and charging connect seamlessly in one platform.

Transfers and Convenience

All long-term lots offer free electric shuttle buses to terminals 1–5 every 10–15 minutes.

  • Your QR code (in the booking) is used for entry and exit
  • Save the QR code on your phone — no need to fumble for receipts at the gate

Quick Guide to Parking at Arlanda

  1. Book online in advance
  2. Arrive at least 30 minutes early
  3. Save your QR code
  4. Charge your EV if staying more than 3 days
  5. Take a photo of the sign where you park

The time you save by planning your parking is often more than what you saved on the flight.

Other Airports in Sweden

Most Swedish airports — Landvetter, Bromma, Malmö Airport — follow similar systems:

  • Several price zones
  • Online booking discounts
  • Digital license plate registration

Arlanda sets the standard — the rest of the country is catching up.

The more important your errand, the more valuable your parking plan becomes.

Digital Parking – The Same Principle Everywhere

Wherever you park:

  • No paper tickets needed
  • Everything linked to your license plate
  • Start, extend, and end parking from your phone

Most common apps:
EasyPark | Parkster | Aimo Park | Parkering Göteborg | Parkering Malmö | Swedavia App

At Parkit, we’re working to connect these systems into one unified digital logic — for both drivers and property owners.

Parkit’s Perspective

We know parking is rarely the highlight of anyone’s day.
But it shapes how that day begins — or how your trip ends.

That’s why we want parking to be predictable, understandable, and human.
Because when you understand the system, both the city — and the world — become easier to navigate.
