Parkit Explains

How Much Does Parking Cost in Stockholm?

Parking in Stockholm can feel like a lottery. Different zones, different apps, different hours — and suddenly you’re paying 50 SEK per hour just for being on the wrong side of the street. Here’s how parking fees in Stockholm really work, what affects the price, and how to avoid unnecessary fines.

How Parking Is Divided in Stockholm

Stockholm uses a three-zone system with varying fee levels — from premium inner-city spots to low-cost suburban areas.
The system is managed by the City of Stockholm, though private operators may set their own prices.

Prices vary depending on the street, area, and demand.

Always check the sign or the app before you park.

Pay by App – The Easiest (and Often Cheapest) Way

In Stockholm, all parking payments are made via app.
The most common ones are:

  • Betala P (the city’s own app)
  • EasyPark
  • Parkster

In these apps you can:

  • See the zone number and current fee
  • Check maximum parking time
  • Start, extend, and stop your session digitally

The advantage?
You only pay for the exact time you’re parked — no need to overpay “just in case”.

Residential Parking – Fixed Price for City Residents

If you’re registered as a resident in Stockholm, you can apply for residential parking (boendeparkering) — a digital permit linked to your address.

Quick facts:

  • Costs around 1,100–1,500 SEK/month, depending on the zone
  • Valid within your designated residential area
  • Apply online via stockholm.se/boendeparkering
  • Pay easily through the Betala P app

Residential parking makes it easier to find a spot — but not guaranteed.
In most inner-city districts, there are more cars than spaces.

Parking Garages and Private Alternatives

Private companies (like Aimo Park, Q-Park, and Parkman) have their own pricing and systems.
They typically offer:

  • Garage parking: 35–70 SEK/hour
  • Daily parking: 200–400 SEK/day
  • Monthly passes: 1,500–3,000 SEK/month

Advantages:

  • No street-cleaning rules or zone codes
  • Often includes EV chargers and camera surveillance

Disadvantages:

  • Higher hourly cost
  • Less flexible for short stays

In central Stockholm, a full day in a garage can cost as much as a train ticket home — so plan ahead.

EV Charging and Electric Car Parking

Electric vehicles pay the same parking fees as others but have access to public charging spots.
Stockholm has over 3,000 public chargers, and more are added every month.

  • Most are AC chargers (11–22 kW)
  • Payment via Betala P or EasyPark
  • Price: roughly 2.5–4.5 SEK/kWh, plus the parking fee
  • Charging spots are usually time-limited — you must be actively charging to stay parked

Free Parking and Exceptions

There are a few situations where you can park for free:

But remember: “free” parking only counts if the sign says so.
Never trust your gut over the sign.

Common Fines and Mistakes

  • Wrong zone selected in the app — the most common cause of fines
  • Parking too close to an intersection (less than 10 metres)
  • Forgetting street-cleaning days
  • Misreading holiday rules

Fine amounts: typically 700–1,300 SEK, depending on the area and offence.

Parkit’s Perspective

We believe parking shouldn’t feel like a test in zone codes.
Technology should simplify, not confuse.

By connecting rules, payments, and understanding in one place, Parkit helps both drivers and property owners make everyday life smoother.

Because parking should be common sense — not guesswork.
